Kompany Optimistic Over Kane Fitness for Champions League Match With Aston Villa
Vincent Kompany: It's 'too early' to determine Harry Kane injury but pepe optimistic for BayKaneogVilla Champions League encounter.
The England striker was replaced four minutes from the end of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen following a challenge by Amine Adli. Tottenham's England captain was still holding his foot afterward, fueling fears for a new injury.
"Nobody knows exactly but hopefully, and this is only my opinion after one year playing with him if it's not that bad - just pain - he will be back in such a short time," said Kompany. Asked if Kane’s injury could be long-term, he replied: "Hopefully not. I'm not a doctor, and it's far too early. He had an issue, I know he has something but I hope he'll be ready for Wednesday.
Ankles have always been one of the weak spots when it comes to Kane, but he only missed two games due to injury after moving from Tottenham Hotspur in summer 2023. Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl echoed Kompany's fears though stressed that Kane is a fighter.
"Harry gets on the field, so when Harry comes off that means he's pretty sore," Eberl said. Dr McNamara uploaded the photos to Twitter and wrote: "it doesn't look good, but we hope he's made of strong stuff from good English wood & nothing is broken.
Kane had no attempt on target against Leverkusen, but has been outstanding so far in this campaign, scoring 10 goals in seven appearances across all competitions. He starred in Bayern's 5-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Match Day 1 of the Champions League, scoring four goals.
Kane is a fitness concern for Bayern Munich ahead of their European clash against Aston Villa.
